Are you thinking of self publishing a business book?

Good! You’re not alone.

Self publishing is a route to achieving financial independence. Read on for a quick overview of why you should self publish a business book and for some examples of successful business books that were self published.

Self publishing a business book

Self publishing a book can help you grow your business in the following ways:

  1. Establishing yourself as an authority in your field
  2. It helps you stand out from the competition
  3. As a lead generation tool
  4. To help you win business from competitors
  5. To demonstrate your thought leadership

If you were faced with two vendors for a business service with similar proposals and backgrounds, who would you choose?

The published author, who first hand has demonstrated authority in the field, or the other vendor?

I know who I’d choose.

What is self publishing?

Most of the time, self publishing doesn’t actually mean self publishing.

When we talk about self publishing, we’re talking about independently publishing a book, so maybe independently publishing would be a better word, but there you go.

Self publishing can be done 100% independently without any outside assistance (but seldom generates any return on investment) or with the help of a small independent publisher.

Is self publishing difficult?

We are now in what’s referred as the age of publishing 3.0.

Publishing 1.0 was 20 years ago. The only way to get published was through a large publishing house.

It cost a fortune and you had to bring a large following to be in with a chance of getting published.

Publishing 2.0 happened in the last 10 years. With the advent of technology and companies like Amazon, there as cheap, quick and easy self publishing options available. While these are certainly the cheapest, they also yielded the poorest results.

Publishing 3.0 is right now.

Many skilled designers, marketers and publishers are selling their services freelance, or through small independent companies, putting these talents within the reach of small business owners at an affordable price tag.

Publishing 3.0 is taking advantage of this distributed workforce and independent self publishing companies to generate the best return on investment from your book. Publishing 3.0 is the most lucrative option for self publishing a business book.
